Safety Features in Modern Motorcycles

Riding two-wheelers is fun, but it also comes with the questions of safety of the riders. It is an enthusiastic activity, but specially, for the riding enthusiasts who love to do stunts or like the wheels of their motorcycle to spin faster than usual, there need to be some special measures that would assure the safety of the rider. Here, we have mentioned some of the modern and innovative safety features for two-wheelers. Let’s have a look;

1) Anti-lock Braking System

Anti-lock Braking System or ABS is a modern-day safety feature for two-wheelers and four-wheelers. It was first introduced by General Motors in the year 1972, and since then, it has proved to be a very important feature that protect cars from skidding. However, the same applies to the motorcycles as well as the two-wheelers are more prone to skidding that could cause serious harm to the rider. German auto giant BMW realised this and introduced ABS for motorcycles 1988. ABS prevents the wheels from locking and saves the rider from losing control of the vehicle. One such bike that has ABS is KTM Duke 390

2) Traction Control

Traction Control monitors the speed of the wheels and see if they have lost traction. It uses the sensors that are used in ABS for its functioning. This feature is present in the high-end motorcycles, for example, Ducati 1199 Panigale. The speed sensing devices find out if any of the wheels is spinning faster and then it slows down the vehicle accordingly.

3) CBS – Combi-Brake System

This is a very useful and common safety feature in the two-wheelers these days. It basically links the front brake with the rear brake of a two-wheeler, and allows the vehicle to apply both the brakes together, even when the rider is applying only one brake manually. A very famous two-wheeler that features Combi-Brake System is Honda Activa.
