When it comes to styling, the BMW employs a rather different approach which gives the SUV the in-your-face looks. The kidney-shaped grille with air flaps is more appealing than ever before. The headlights comprise of DRL units and LED units to get a laser light setup. The center dam has several sensors and a camera which the BMW calls it “Driving Assistant Professional”. The sensors record and feed it to the systems like lane keeping assist, steering assistant, and automatic speed limit assist. The rear gets the rectangular wraparound taillights with LED treatment.

Powerful Powertrains

The international variant of the BMW X5 gets a turbocharged engine which is a 3L inline 6-cylinder that pumps 335 bhp of power and 332Nmof torque. These figures are an improvement from the previous model that had 300bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. This new powertrain is claimed to be more fuel efficient and power efficient.


The X5 comes with the typical stability and composure found in large sedans. The handling capabilities are further enhanced by the optional driving package that the car gets but driving around tight corners will still remind you it is an SUV.


The new BMW X5 gets a heavy revamp from the inside. The dashboard design is more angular and sharper than before. The interior is dual toned and there is a general hexagon theme that has been followed by the manufacturers. However, the M-sport variant gets all black interior. The interior gets a digital instrument cluster along with a high-resolution 12.3-inch infotainment system that can be controlled using gestures or through the swivel dial present on the console. The system can be connected via apple car play but misses on android auto. Overall the interior is a top notch and high-quality plastic to design interiors. The rear seats can accommodate three people easily, but the seats do not recline or slide. The boot space is generous as it comes with a 650L of storage space. The electrical split gate offers added ease while loading heavier items.

The car comes with air suspension as a standard that offers a good ride quality. While the international variant gets several hi-tech features like seven airbags, traction control, wireless mobile charger, adaptive cruise control but the same can’t be confirmed with the variant launched in India.


The ride is comfortable and composed as the suspension can handle all kinds of terrain with ease without disturbing the passengers. The cabin is well insulated from the outside noise and the entire journey is completed in peace. The X5 is surprisingly smooth at high speeds due to the 6-cylinder engine.


Similar to previous models, the rear hatch of the new X5 is split horizontally. The lower part can be brought down in size by folding down like a tailgate. The cargo area is 33cubic feet of space which can be increased to 72 cubic feet of space when the rear seats are folded down. When the SUV is properly equipped the maximum towing capacity of the SUV is calculated at 3265kgs.


The X5 comes with two 12.3-inch digital displays, one with central display and the other serves as gauge cluster that is integrated with its Live Cockpit Professional system. The BMW has improved its iDrive interface for quicker interaction and a significant improvement can be seen in the gesture control system that gives better accuracy. The instrument panel is configurable that comes with a heads-up display that makes reading the console quite easy while driving.

In India, the BMW X5 2019 price is around Rs 72.90 lakhs that makes it one of the premium SUVs in the Indian market.
