Sportsbikes in India have struck a chord with buyers in the country and its importance is increasing with every passing year. More expensive than normal bikes, these sportsbikes could sometimes be even higher priced as compared to luxury sedans but appeal to buyers for whom budget is not a constraint and pay special attention to handling and performance.
Yamaha R1 – Price INR 27,00,000
Yamaha R1 is the flagship racer, offering riders a MotoGP experience. This open class, sportbike has been manufactured by Yamaha Motor Company since 1998. It comes in Yamaha Blue, Vivid Red and Metallic Black color options and competes against the Aprilia RSV4 and BMW S1000R besides the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Honda CBR1000RR.
Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998cc liquid cooled, 4 stroke, DOHC, 4 cylinder engine, offering 197.3 bhp power at 13,500 rpm and 112.4 Nm torque at 11,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed constant mesh gearbox and uses wet multiplate clutch to chain drive on rear wheels. With its electronic fuel injection system, outstanding racing experience is a highlight. This engine allows acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.70 seconds and a top speed of 299 kmph. Mileage in city limits goes upto 10 kmpl while on the highway it is at 15 kmpl with combined mileage at 13 kmpl. Ducati Panigale R – INR 50,00,000
This sportsbike is designed to appeal to every racer biker with its outstanding on-track performance. Its new engine layout is what enhances competitiveness not only where track performance is concerned but also for street versions.
First introduced at the 2011 Milan Motorcycle Show, the Panigale R was named after the small town of Borgo Panigale where it was manufactured. In 2012, the company added Panigale R World Superbike homologation model with lighter parts made of carbon fiber and a more efficient engine.
Dugati Panigale R is fitted with a twin cylinder, Euro 3, 1198cc Superquadro L-Twin, 4 Desmodromically actuated valves per cylinder, liquid cooled engine. This engine is capable of 202.2 bhp power at 11,500 rpm and 136.2 Nm torque at 10,250 rpm. This engine is capable of liquid cooling and fuel system specifications include Electronic fuel injection system, twin injectors per cylinder and full ride-by-wire elliptical throttle bodies.
Dugati Panigale R measures 2,060mm in length, 745mm in width and 1,277mm height. It gets seat height of 830mm and ground clearance of 125mm. It gets a tank capacity of 17 liters and curb weight of 184 kgs.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX10-R – INR 18,00,000
Kawasaki Ninja ZX10-R sports bike from the Japanese automakers Kawasaki is a successor to the Ninja ZX-9R. First launched in 2004, and revised over the years, its current version is priced at INR 16.40 lakhs in India.
Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R in the 998cc category, offers 197.3 bhp peak power at 13,000 rpm and 113.5 Nm torque at 11,500 rpm mated to a 6 speed gearbox. It weighs a total of 206 kgs, has ground clearance of 145mm, commands a top speed of 299 kmph and rivals the likes of the Honda CBR1000RR, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and Yamaha YZF-R1. Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R liter class superbike is noted for its excellent performance and outstanding handling. It is presented in shades of Pearl Blizzard White and Lime Green/Ebony.
