Tips To Maintain Your Car Engine

Engine is one of the most important parts of a car. It is responsible for the car’s smooth operation. Knowing the basics of car engine can ensure a longer engine life and smooth performance:

1.Engine Oil: Engine Oil controls the friction between moving parts keeping them free of dirt. Also, it protects the engine from wear and tear and regulates temperature. You should refer to your owner’s manual to buy a suitable product for your vehicle and follow the mentioned oil change cycle. With prolonged use, oil gets burnt and loses its lubricating qualities. Oil levels should also be regularly checked as some amount of oil gets burnt in engine.

2.Timing belts: If you have an Internal combustion engine, timing belts keep your engine operation running smoothly. A damaged timing belt can cause a piston to go into a valve, causing the engine to break entirely. So it is very important to check timing belt regularly, and replace it if necessary.

3.Spark Plug: Spark plug provides starting life to your engine. If you have trouble starting the engine, experiencing drop in mileage or a rough idling, it is an indication that you need to replace your spark plug. By a rule of thumb, copper spark plugs last about 10,000 to 20,000 miles and platinum plugs can last up to 60,000 miles.

4.Changing air filters: Air filter prevents dust and debris to catch the engine. Air with debris can cause poor engine performance and lack of power. An air filter should be replaced every 15,000-20,000 miles or more often if driving conditions are harsh.
